Antonio Canova is my favorite sculptor, and this book was a treat to myself.This is a big, heavy, oversized coffee book with 282 photographs, and 50 of them in color! Full page!50 pages in color. The guy worked in white marble, so who cares, right?No my friend, the color photographs are breathtaking. “Living Stone” is such a cliche, and can white marble have warmth? It can indeed.The book isn’t all Cupid and Psyche. The funeral monuments Canova did also get plenty of space. Even the black and white photographs do a magnificent job on fine details and the luster of the stone.Treat yourself.
